With a quick "How ya doing?" from Jon Bon Jovi, the band goes straight into playing the first song on the Lost Highway CD. In fact, the CD is played in its entirety in the original order, the first time that they've ever done that. As with any live performance, there are breaks for some commentary, but the performance is never compromised for the stops.

The band plays in a small arena, somewhat like the size of a television show set, giving an intimate feel to the show. Seeing this, it's no wonder that the concert sold out within minutes of tickets going on sale. And the concert-goers certainly got their money's worth.

In addition to playing the Lost Highway CD from start to finish, the band played favorites including "Dead or Alive", and "Have a Nice Day". While I think that they could've included more older hits, it was a concert solely for the promotion of the current CD. Musically, they've gone for a more country sound, with the addition of fiddles and banjos, but the rock and roll core is still there throughout the album. In fact, "Any Other Day" is probably the only twanggy sounding of the songs, but "We Got It Going On" captures the rock heart of the band and gets the whole audience involved.

Fantastic concert and a must have for any Bon Jovi fan.

I thought that the interviews with all the band members was enlightening. It seems almost imperative to listen to what they all have to say, to find out what all the band members were going through to make this album. You find out before you even listen to the CD that they were going for a more country sound, that they were truly having more fun playing this music, and they had less of a commercial goal with this album. All very refreshing. However, the DVD could have probably done without the set design renderings. Does anyone really care about that? I think that was thrown in as an afterthought.

The Final Word:

What I believe makes a good live concert is not flare, light shows, pyrotechnics, costume changes, or an extravaganza. However, I think that it's musicians who have a good, true sound live, and are having fun with what they do. Bon Jovi delivers this and how. I will confess, I am not what you would call a Bon Jovi fan, but I enjoyed this performance.
