Bon Jovi among stars at benefit concert honoring late musician

Buck Jones was slated to play at Billy Block's Western Beat show tonight.

Jones, a singer-songwriter and touring musician, died early Saturday morning, March 17, when he was hit by a car while walking beside a Texas highway. He had blown a tire, and was looking for a mile marker so he could tell the AAA people where he was. Jones was 33, and was routinely cited as someone whose career was on the upswing. He was also a person who displayed fundamental decency, kindness, grace, humor and enthusiasm. He left behind a wife, a 7-month-old child and a shocked and saddened Nashville music community.

About six months ago, Jones played a Western Beat show on a night when Jon Bon Jovi came onstage as a surprise guest. Bon Jovi heard Jones' set and was duly impressed, the two talked for awhile backstage. Tonight, Bon Jovi is among the all-star musicians who will entertain at the Cannery Ballroom on a show that will aid the Buck Jones Memorial Fund, an account that will benefit Jones' wife Amy-Beth and his son Walker Dylan.

Tickets for the 8 p.m. show (doors open at 6:30) are $50, and Bon Jovi will be joined by Richie Sambora, Big & Rich, Jewel, Billy Currington and others. There'll be a silent auction as well.
