BEA Cancels Jon Bon Jovi and Amy Grant Concert

BookExpo America announced that the Saturday evening benefit concert, which was set to feature Jon Bon Jovi and Amy Grant, has been canceled because Bon Jovi will not be able to perform. Bon Jovi's publisher, Flying Dolphin Press, said that the release of his book, Believe, originally set for November 2007, has been postponed.

Proceeds from the event were going to benefit the Association of American Publishers' Get Caught Reading campaign and the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression. BEA's autographing program will still benefit the two causes.

 

"I cannot begin to express my regret about this development, and I apologize profusely to all our many attendees who I know were looking forward to this event," said BEA event director Lance Fensterman in a statement. "I hope that people will take advantage of our autographing program, or seek out other ways to contribute to the great work that is being done by Get Caught Reading and ABFFE."

According to literary blog Galleycat, Fensterman said the cost for Grant to perform alone would have been too high and "either the publisher would have to cover that or it would come out of the charities take—neither a great option."
