Actress Denise Richards and Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora have ended their year-long relationship.

A rep for the couple confirms that they split two months ago, however, they reportedly kept their separation quiet to avoid the kind of publicity they faced during their respective divorces:

"They didn't want to make it public because they lived through public divorces and it was very painful," a friend tells In Touch Weekly.

The pair remain close, with Denise even flying out to attend the funeral of Richie's father in April.

Denise began dating Richie following his split from her best friend, actress Heather Locklear. The pair have not spoken since.
